How long have you been in business? 3 months
What is your business all about? I am an RN and after 15 years decided to make a career change in order to be my own boss and follow a dream. I began planning for my career change prior to my certification. I had my suite secured and began marketing myself and completed my certification at the Minnesota Brow Lash Studio and Academy. I currently offer permanent makeup eyeliner and lip tinting. I love what I am doing now and the people that I have met.
What made you start your business? I’m divorced and a mother of 3 young kids. As a nurse who worked with covid patients I saw how my career impacted those close to me. I was quarantined from my two youngest kids for most of April 2020. I worked long hours and often was exhausted on my days off. I wanted to find a way to still have a positive impact on people but be my own boss.
What makes your business unique? I want to be able to offer services to anyone that is interested. That may mean lowering my rates for those that need a little help or working an evening for someone that can’t get to me any other time. I have recently introduced colored pigments for lash line enhancements to try to offer a wide range of colors to my clients. In the future I plan to offer scalp micro pigmentation and areola tattooing for breast cancer survivors.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful business owner?
- Drive

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone who wants to launch their own business?
- Market yourself from day 1
- Get a separate business phone number (I didn’t )
- Remind yourself of your ‘why’ ever day
Who has been your greatest inspiration? Or what book has inspired you the most? Or what is your favorite book? There isn’t just one but many people I have met in this journey that have inspired me. I have found myself in the company of tattoo artists and permanent makeup artists and everyone is pushing each other and helping each other. I have contacts all over the country now who support me. It’s nice to see good people are still out there.
How do you conquer those moments of doubt that so often stifle or trip up or stop so many? I remind myself that as a single mom and nurse I have encountered countless times where I was uncertain of myself .....yet I got through those times. So when I feel nervous or encounter a new hurdle I just remember that I can handle anything that comes my way.
Passion: I will go above and beyond to make my clients happy. And I believe in the idea of lifelong learning. I am constantly researching and talking to other permanent makeup artists to ensure that I bring the best services and products to my clients.
